I'm not a technical guy,But I heard there was mercury used in the analog meter detectors and that is why you don't see any being produced anymore as it is hazardous to work with. That's just what I heard from a dealer I know. I don't know if it is true. And Tom I have one last question, what year was the buy out by First Texas as I don't remember exactly?

I was wondering if Tom or someone else in the know could answer a question I have had for some time. I was wondering are the F.T. CZ-3D'S being built at this time are from new First Texas manufactored parts? Or are they still using parts left over from Los Banos? And once this supply is exhausted the CZ-3D will be discontinued? I have heard some dealers say yes and once the parts are finishe

I am one of a few yankees who has had a nauty. I had a Nautilus IIba and found my deepest Indian with it at12'' with the 8'' coil! I love the dual tones it had. And it had one of the sweetest deep tones I ever heard on a detector. I'm sure a lot of nauty users know the tone I am talking about. That soft sweet dics. only tone. I use to use it at old wooded picnic groves wi

I would expect to see a lot more for sale at good prices when there new machine comes out. I might pick one up then. As they are suppose to be good in iron and water proof. It would be good to use on those on and off drizzle days when you don't wan't to get your main unit wet.

I know what you mean as far as weight and balance of Explorer. I have an E-trac which is a little bit better balanced,But to guy like me with a bad shoulder from swinging a hammer at work it still gets heavy. Last year I got the sunray 8'' coil that helped alot. But this year even that began to bother mean so I got another CZ-3D,figuring I would probally have to chest/hip mount it. And

I wouldn't as original los banos CZ's aren't being made anymore and fast becoming collecter items. Where F-70's are a dime a dozen! And with the fact all CZ's are built like a tank I bet it will out last the cheaper built F-70.

That's why I have both the E-trac and a CZ-3D. They are the 2 best machines I have ever used for my type of hunting. It's fun to go back to a site and rehunt with the other detector and see if you can pull another keeper or two. I have been doing that lately with the CZ-3D since I got it back from Tom. I went to a site yesterday that I hit pretty good with the Big E and found a mercury

I agree totally and everyone is treated the same no matter if you have been detecting 30 days or 30 years. It not like another forum for a detector they don't make any more where they bite your head off if you ask a question about that perticular machine and you have been detecting less than 30 years. Talk about a bunch of grumpy old men!

I like to leave my volume at 4 as to tell the difference between shallow and deep targets. As far as the depth meter even though it only goe's to 8'' you can tell the deepie's the way it whines and barley pinpoints when it tops out on the meter,or at least this is how I know. And as far as my volume setteing at 4 that is just the way I like it as some like it past 5 when the a

I would give Tom a PM as sometimes he can help with depth also. I had a original first run CZ-3D which I bought new. I traded it in on the lastest greatest which I didn't care for. Tryed to get my old one back and couldn't as it was sold. I tryed to locate another 1021 couldn't find one so I bought a FT model used. It was actually pretty hot as it would hit the clad dime in the tes

I know it has nothing to do with performance,But I hope they go back to there trade mark green color as it is so ugly it looks good at least to me anyways. Besides it seems like every machine that comes out today is Black. It use to look cool,But it has been done to death by everybody and thier brother!

I would also get Andy Sabisch's book on minelab E-trac/Explorer as it has a wealth of information. I personally like to run my E-trac in auto+3 as it just seems to run smother in my area. But it seems like most people with E-tracs in my area run auto over manual sens. But the people in my area with ExplorerII,se,xs, run manual over auto.

I agree 100% if I am in the woods I use a samson shovel. But if I am in a park or such I use a hand trowel. I have heard the argument a thousand times about how you can cut a neater plug with a shovel and maybe you can,But it just looks bad. That's what all the newbee yuppies hunting these Chicago parks use and it is just a matter of time before they are all shut down to Metal detecting! It

Thanks I found it and ordered it! Even though I'm mostly a old coin hunter I do enjoy good metal detecting DVD's in general. And the first one was so good and so much good information I'm sure I will still get some good tips. Besides with the price of gold I might start doing a little beach hunting around Lake michigan when the summer tourist season is over. I have a few buddys who

I would say for deep and partially masked silver coins nothing beats the E-trac at I.D./depth. Now as far as pure raw depth coil for coil I would give the node to the CZ-3D. That's one of the reasons I own both,And they are the only 2 machines I own and need.

I currently use the killer Bee's wasp which I like alot. I have had the sunray pro's inthe past also which are good phones. The only difference I noticed is the killer bees have the interlocking toggle switch so they won't get knocked out of place in the feild. And the ear cups seem to be a liitle more comfortable for my ears anyways. There both great headphones.

I was wondering that myself. Just out of curiousity is yours a newer one or a 1021,1121, los banos machine? I just sent mine in to Tom it is a newer machine.

The CZ-3D that I just sent Tom would air test a clad dime at close to 11''. This is good enough for me,But the problem was at that depth the signal was smeared and not crisp and sharp like it should be. Also the catogorys were off,old nickels that would read foil in salt mode would still hit foil in enhanced mode with the corresponding tone. And deep silver hits would bounce from zinc to

I guess I will try an answer this one. Old nickels like v and Buffalo's that have come out of the ground with some patina to them that read foil in salt mode should read nickel high tone in enhanced mode. And Indians that have a heavy patina that read sqaure pull tab in salt mode should read high tone zinc in enhanced mode, the same as a 5 dollar gold piece which a lot of people don't ha
