Low Boy, as I recall in one of your videos I believe it was one of your hunting partners (Rybo?), you guys were at a old house site that was torn down, he was using a 3D with a 5 inch coil. I remember wondering why he wasnt atleast using a 8 inch. I realized later that there was probably alot of junk to work around. I commented recently on the "lazer-like" precision I was getting in ext

That's all I'm finding is brass cartridge shells so far. There has to be some silver here somewhere. The LTD is really doing well in the junk.

Private message him and ask him to air test a dime in all metal with sensitivity set at 4.5. The test should be done outside. It should test at least 10" if its worth its salt I might be little off on some of these details. A good 1021 gos for around $500 not sure what a 1121 gos for

I'm going up to my buddys place this weekend. He has a cabin surrounded by thousands of acres of state which has hundreds of deer camps. I've never tried hunting them and am going to give it a try. I'm sure there infested with tons of beer can tabs and hopefully some silver. The hunters have been going up there since the 30's and longer.

The older 3D that you refer to has a serial number that starts with #1021xxxx and was made in the U.S. at the old FISHER in Los Banos Cal. Not all of them could detect a dime at 12", but most of them could detect alot deeper especially compared to the new FISHERs 3D's.

Yes, that's true, and that's why it pays to be patient and hunt in the trash with a small coil, you just have to know your limits or you'll go pulltab crazy.

Thats what I've always thought too. Only thing I can think of is those who are using vdi's who can tell the difference between penny dime are cherry picking. I know alot of machines cant however my old 6000 di could.
Its really interesting though, some of the things you will find sometimes, in the most obvious places. Like the 1900 indian I found, only in 5 inches last month in my favo

Those are some really cool finds. I know alot of you guys out there hunt in that park and its very historic. Tons of people lived in it after the earthquake and the subsequent fire in tents. Must be a awesome place. Just how big is it?

My best freind and I who I recently introduced to detecting bought my mexican 3D and his 21yr old son got a CZ 7a pro on Ebay and they are obsessed with it now. This great hobby has given them something they can now share together and bond with. He even bought a Ace 250 for his 8yr old daughter who likes to detect too. They are also Nasa Tom devotees and are getting the DVD after repeatedly borro

I remember one of my biggest came in the summer of '89. My buddys brother bought a 100+ year old fixer upper. He gave me the ok to come over with my detector. I had thought this was it, I was finally going to find some really old coins! So, we drove over a hour to get there, fortunately not that far. We get there and he shows us around the place. It was huge. All kinds of rooms, secret passa

I'll answer this Chuck. Im the "guy" your refuring too. Daniel did calibrate my 3D to air test a dime at 10.5 inches, he spent more than the usual time on it because such a big issue was made with this 3D situation during the winter. The machine is very hot now, the sensitivity can only be set as high as 4 and it starts falsing. Fisher did a great job. The problem is a lack of cons

There are some places where I think where its just not reasonable to dig all the foil signals, like my local high school. One of the reasons being is the concession stand that sells stuff wrapped in foil. Its everywhere. Even when your not digging the foil signals your still digging it anyway because they "ball" it up and drop it on the ground. It gets stepped on and flattened. And then

Yes Brian, I too. Being its in a public park, I'm not going to be able to do the type of excavation Tom did. However, there is are some areas where that just might be possible. For example, I have done extensive research on this park since '87. I had gone to the local historical society and dug up all the old pictures that were ever taken of this park. One of them I found a church group

Brian, thats what I was saying on the other post regarding digging pennys. I have a really heavy 14kt band that I wear and it id's in the penny/dime range, which is also a big time hi-tone.
Hearing Tom say that 97% of all jewelry registers as foil is a real bummer. The last gold ring I found read as p-tab, the one before that read nickel. I do dig alot of foil, and I dig ALL p-tabs and nick

I have been hunting at this really old park only 2 miles away now for almost 25yrs. It continues to produce silver and jewelry here and there. For the longest time after reading Toms articles the "Painful Truth" and "Beneath The Mask" I have been inspired to concentrate on one small 5x10 area. I started with a 3inch coil on the 1266x Magnum and removed many pulltabs, and in th
