The F5 is not known to be a deep seeker, mine maxes out at about 8" depending on conditions and set up. Mike Hillis has posted that he gets more depth from his F5 by maxing out the threshold pot, its not a defined spot on the pot but he maxes the knob(+9) and gets it to "slip" into this mode. I think he says it boosts audio of the weaker signals . If it is depth you need then a goo

One is for sale locally, can those of you who have used this machine provide some tell me a bit about it, tone(s), depth, separation. I hear some people still use them in the iron. What is the difference between the 1266X and the 1266XB.

I'm fairly new at this hobby(12 years) and have seen many new detectors in that time, but there seems to be a few older machines that still get used on a regular basis by many people here. I'm not talking about an older machine you hunt with once a year for old time sake, I'm talking about machines that are 15-20 years old but still can hang with the new technology. For me it is a

More Spin Off ,It even comes down to feeding the world. Landsat imaging, was being used not just to measure the size of forests etc, but the thermal images could tell you whether there was a healthy corn crop below or if it was diseased, giving a farmer a chance to be proactive before he lost a full season's crop. Better management of resources is paramount in this time of dwindling supplie

It's really sad that the space program has declined to where it is today. NASA never did a good job of promoting itself over the years to inform the public of all the spin off technology we gained through the research and development they did. Things as simple as better paints and plastics, chemicals, electronics that we take for granted every day. When I worked at JSC in Houston(70s-80s) we

The 1021 units are earlier production and are reputed to get better depth, most any CZ3D will get respectable depth though. If you think yours might need a tune up I highly recommend Tom D., mine came back a better machine(quick turn around too). Check this forum, there is a wealth of info on all the CZ models.

I have found that some national forest areas can be hunted, but this is up to the discretion the local governing agent and you must secure his/her permission. Most other areas are a NO go.

Dan, I have been on a B Blocker for about 10yrs now. Still surf(40 years now) and try to get out detecting a couple times a week, can't surf more than a couple hours and the 8 hr days of detecting aren't happening any more. Yep, I feel tired but just pace myself. I think the effects you experiencing is more from the condition you have than the meds themselves. The heat this time of year

Nothing wrong with that F5, great for coin shooting/small relics, just won't get much deeper 8" on coin size targets. I really enjoy the simplicity of its analog controls, and the tones are great(for my ears), I call it my fun machine. Just wish Fisher would kick the depth up a couple more inches. Glad your garden did well, I had one of my worst seasons, plus I had a big ol cotton tail

Dan I always carried a white art eraser back in my tech days. We had equipment racks that took up whole rooms, all back before the digital age.

How many of you take time to clean the coil connector on the housing and coil wire. When someone is having trouble, you always read responses about checking to be sure the connection tight, but never about cleaning it.

I have mild soil here so I can run 4-5 on sens most times. My 1021 was ck'd by Tom, so it's in cal. It will get an honest 11+ inches(in ground, coin size targets), but I can't vouch for 12+. Doesn't seem to matter which coil I'm using, it runs stable. It does get a bit more chatty the closer to 5 I get, but it's not to the point of being unstable. Don't get in a

Not saying I'm for or against a permit system, but I don't think it will make a difference whether people cover their holes or not. We all have a license(permit) to drive and we all know everyone out there on the road uses proper dedicate when driving, right????

That is pretty much how I feel when I see holes unfilled. Just a few screwing it up for all. I don't think it is an age specific problem though.

Might as well face it, we are into the digital age. New machines might have a analog type interface(F5 comes to mind), but the internals will printed boards and chips. As Dan said it's all about that margin

I added an AT PRO a couple months back and I like it more and more, but I'm keeping my Tom D 1021 as well. Can't beat that CZ for depth, smooth running(inland or beach), love how it kicks old coins into high tone(tones are better than the AT for my ears) simple to operate. The AT comes out when the iron is there, but if no/little iron, the CZ gets the nod most times. If you can work it

Maybe if the producers keep it real, people would see it as a lot of work, many times digging a lot of trash just for one good target . That might keep people out of the hobby(we all go through dry spells). It's kind of a double edged sword, less people in the hobby means less sales of equipment which in turn takes away dollars needed to further the development of new equipment. More people

If you use bolts, get T bolts, they have a very flat head, we use them in tracks for marine windshields. There is no slot for a screwdriver, but they should lock up in the depression(slot) in the mount. you might need to sleeve the hole through the rod so when the bolts are tightened the shaft isn't crushed. Dan, are they putting you on a Beta Blocker med, they work great for me, hope you g

Tighter tolerances on components, tighter calibration standard, different alignment procedure (supposedly they have gone back to the old procedure), just to name a few things. There are forum members here that are more knowledgeable than me, maybe they will chime in.

I own both and enjoy both machines, F5 for park and modern sites(coins and jewelry), Light weight, nice tones, ID stays accurate almost to max depth(about 8") , just a fun machine. The CZ comes out for older sites, beach or any place I need more depth. You'll find the F5 to be very tunable to any hunting situation. Read Mike Hillis posts on it, lots of good info.
